Tucked away from the mainstream tourist radar, Gozo is like that quiet kid who everyone overlooks but is actually the life of the party.
From breathtaking landscapes to heart-pumping activities, this island has it all. It’s a place where rugged cliffs and idyllic beaches coexist, where ancient ruins whisper tales of the past, and where Maltese traditions thrive.
Trust me, missing out on Gozo is like skipping dessert – a crime that should never be committed!
As the second-largest island in the Maltese archipelago, I was shocked at how much there was to see. If I was in Malta any longer, I would have stayed in Gozo for several days, but with the time I did have, I decided to explore the island in style: by jeeping it.
And since you found this post, you’re probably interested in jeeping it around Gozo as well, or at least learning more about it.
I first discovered my love for jeep tours when I was visiting the beautiful island of Fuerteventura, Spain. So of course when I had the opportunity to take a jeep tour in Gozo, I jumped at the chance! I didn’t have time to explore the island on my own, and it was a great way to see all the top sites in one day.
This is everything you need to know when taking a Gozo jeep tour and why you should take one!

Why you should take a Gozo jeep tour
It’s a great way to see the island in a short amount of time
If you have a short amount of time to see everything in Malta, you don’t want to spend extra time getting from place to place, and you definitely don’t want to miss out on visiting Gozo. Taking a Gozo jeep tour makes visiting Gozo in a short amount of time doable, from hotel pick up to drop off and everything in between.
You get to access parts of the island that wouldn’t be possible with a car or bus
Cars aren’t built to access areas with rough terrain. That is why jeeps are so great! You get to visit certain parts of Gozo that might not be accessible if you were to visit on your own.
Jeeps are hella fun
There’s nothing quite like the experience of riding in a jeep. As you traverse the bumpy terrain, you can feel every jolt throughout your body and the wind whips through your hair.
It’s similar to the excitement of being on a roller coaster, where your heart races, and you feel a surge of energy. The thrill and sensation of riding in a jeep are truly exhilarating, and they are such a fun way to explore Gozo.
They are a stress-free way to explore the island
The great thing about taking a jeep tour is that you don’t have to plan a thing. Your only job is sitting back, relaxing, and letting your knowledgeable guide show you the best of Gozo. There is really no better way to explore the island.
Gozo Jeep Tour Stops
I took a jeep tour with Gozo pride tours and loved it! Everything was well organized, and I definitely felt like I got my moneys worth. Below are the stops we made on the tour, so you can decide if a Gozo jeep tour is right for you.
Stop #1 Viewpoint in Qala
The first stop on your Gozo jeep tour will be an amazing viewpoint in Qala. You get to walk around, take pictures, and you will have the option to walk to an even higher viewpoint. This wasn’t such a bad way to start the tour.
Stop #2 Ramla Beach
Ramla beach is renowned for its golden-red sand and crystal-clear turquoise waters, and stands out as one of the most picturesque and popular beaches on Gozo. Since I went in April, it wasn’t warm enough to swim, so we spent about 25 minutes walking around and taking pictures.
My guide Pauline told me that Ramla is a popular nesting spot for sea turtles, so volunteers patrol the beach looking for nests, and when they find them, they guard them 24/7 until they hatch. We were too early in the season, unfortunately, but if you are there May – September, you may get lucky and see some nests!
If you are feeling thirsty, they have an onsite café that serves delicious cappuccinos as well as other drinks and snacks. You can sip your beverage on their outdoor seating area while listening to the waves crashing and admiring the beautiful ocean view.
Stop #3 Ta’ Ċenċ Cliffs
Prepare to be amazed by the incredible Ta’ Ċenċ Cliffs, or as I like to call them, the “Where Nature Shows Off” cliffs. This is the highest view point in Gozo and you will make a quick stop here to take some photos and of course drop your jaw at how stunning the view is.
Stop #4 Xlendi Promenade Walk
We got to take a pretty little walk down to the Xlendi Promenade, nestled in the oh-so-adorable town of Xlendi. Our guide Pauline dropped us off at the start of a trail, about a 15-minute walk.
We all made the descent downhill, stopping every few minutes to take in yet another amazing view. Gozo is absolutely stunning y’all! Pauline picked us up at the end of our walk, and then we were on to the next place.
Stop #5 Rotunda St. John Baptist Church & Lunch
We stopped here for a little over an hour because we not only got to go inside Rotunda St John Baptist church, but we also had a delicious lunch. We began by going inside of the church while our lunch was being prepared.
We headed up an elevator where we got to go to the top and take in an incredible view of Gozo. We had to pay extra to go to the top, but it was 100% worth it and only cost about 3 euros.
And we were able to climb to the top of the bell tower. We were just told not to ring the bells, and then we headed down to go eat! After are busy morning, we were all pretty hungry. We started with a delicious pasta and then a plate of chicken, potatoes, and some veggies.
Not pictured is the glass of wine and the ice cream for dessert. I’m definitely impressed with the tour thus far, and the day isn’t even over!
Stop #6 Small Tourist Shop
This is the part I hate about tours. Many tour companies get paid by small tourist shops to bring people there, and they are generally more expensive than other places where you would be able to get the same stuff.
Pauline said we were going to a small deli to try local cheese and liquor, which was kind of misleading. We definitely did all of that, but it wasn’t at a deli and there was no mention of doing it with 10 other tour groups in a small souvenir shop.
The tourist shop was also located on a busy street and all the big tour buses stopped in the middle, letting people off, so there was lots of traffic and it just didn’t seem that safe.
You can probably tell from my little rant, I was not a fan. I did go inside, tried some coffee, liquor, and cheese, but left fairly quickly.
Stop #7 Dwejra Inland Sea
Dwejra is a hidden gem in Gozo. This unique lagoon is connected to the vast Mediterranean Sea through a narrow natural arch.
On one side of this lagoon, you’ll find a stony beach adorned with quaint fishermen’s huts. Fishing boats, or as the locals call them, luzzijiet, which can often be seen resting on the pebbly shore.
This is a popular spot for people looking to go diving or get certified. I wish we had time to take a boat through the tunnel and explore the nearby bays and rock formations, but we only had time to explore on shore.
Stop #8 Basilica of the National Shrine of the Blessed Virgin of Ta’ Pinu
Prepare to have your breath taken away by the sheer magnificence of this must-visit basilica. Outside, you’ll see intricate mosaics, beautifully depicting the extraordinary life of Christ, and inside is just as beautiful.
We stopped here for about 15 – 20 minutes, which allowed plenty of time to walk around and get pictures.
Stop #9 Xwejni Salt Pans
Salt, the OG seasoning and preservative, has been around for a looooooong time. And back in the day, this mineral was so darn precious that it doubled as cold, hard cash and had laws regulating its production.
Salt is one of the most interesting and versatile seasoning in the world, so I will take any chance to visit a salt pan and learn about the salt making process. Xwejni salt pans are the only salt pans in Gozo that people are able to visit.
We spent 10-15 minutes here walking around taking pictures. We also had the option to go inside and old shop where we could buy salt and learn more about it.
Stop #10 Citadel in Victoria
When you are coming into Gozo, you’ll most likely spot the Citadel perched atop the island, keeping a watchful eye on its surroundings. We got the chance to explore on our final stop. This place was massive, and we were given 45 minutes, which was enough time to walk around and explore some churches and take pictures.
Within the walls of the Cittadella, you will discover old buildings and churches, but my favorite was the Cathedral of the Assumption, a gorgeous church built between 1697 and 1711.
There were a few cute shops, a museum, and lots of viewpoints.
There were some parts you had to pay extra for, but I found there was enough to do. Once we finished here, we started to make our way to the port to catch the ferry back to mainland Malta.
Gozo Jeep Tour Faqs
How do you get to Gozo?
Pick up is included with the tour. A van is sent to pick up guests all over Malta. I was staying in Sliema, so I had to walk 3 minutes to a hotel where they picked me up. We then drove to St Pauls Bay, where we got on a private boat to Gozo. Once we got to Gozo, all the jeeps and guides were waiting and someone was there to assign each person to their designated jeep.
How many people will be on the Gozo jeep tour?
There will only be 5 people on your tour, but you will be picked up with others who are doing various tours. Once you get to Gozo, everyone is assigned their designated tour.
Who is the guide on the Gozo jeep tour?
I can’t speak for all the tour guides, but my guide Pauline was awesome! It was nice having a female guide for once. Pauline is Dutch and speaks German, Maltese, and English. Everyone on my tour was German, so she had to switch between German for them and English for me, which didn’t bother me at all.
Who should take a Gozo jeep tour?
Anyone who wants to explore Gozo, but may have limited time or just doesn’t want to deal with planning logistics or renting a car.
