If you’re looking to experience the best nightlife in Malta, St. Julian’s is the place to be! I recently visited St. Julian’s for a travel blogging conference, and if there’s one thing I’ve learned attending, it’s that bloggers know how to party (after all the talks, of course!).
That being said, St. Julian’s offers so much nightlife options, everything from swanky cocktail bars and nightclubs where you can dance all night, to beach bars, karaoke bars, and cozy pubs. There is a reason people come from all over the world to party here.
This guide will give you everything you need to have a fantastic night out. I personally went to every single place on this list and without a doubt, had the best time and I know you will too.

Best Cocktail Bars in St Julian’s
Thirsty Barber | Address: Triq Ball, Paceville, San Ġiljan, Malta.
This was by far my favorite bar in St Julian’s! I love a good speakeasy, and although this wasn’t your typical speakeasy, it still kind of felt like one. You enter through this British phone booth and once you’re inside, you will be transported to a 1920s barber shop. It’s the only prohibition style bar in Malta!
They have a selection of yummy drinks including prohibition era cocktails and some tasty signature cocktails like The Blind Pig with Pisco, Apple, Chamomile Bitter, and Egg white that I highly recommend.
Alex House Shot Bar | Address: STJ2030, 27 Triq Ball, San Ġiljan, Malta
Can we really say a city has great nightlife if it doesn’t have a shot bar? Alex Shot Bar has the best shots in St Julian and an impressive variety.
I am not someone who cares for pure alcohol shots, so the fact that I could order flavored shots like pistachio, banana, and chocolate made me actually enjoy taking them. I guess, according to the photo below, I had 4.
Now this isn’t completely unique to Alex’s because I have seen it at other bars but if you are with a group of friends they have deals where you can order 12, 24, 60 or even 72 shots for super cheap. The shots probably aren’t very strong, but if you have enough of them, they will do the trick.
This is definitely the spot to come if you are looking to pregame before the club.
Happy Dayz Shack | Address: Xatt ta Spinola, St Julian’s, Malta
This was one of my favorite bars in St Julian’s. I am a sucker for a good tiki bar or any bar that creates a feeling of being somewhere warm and tropical. My favorite part were the old fishing boats that you could sit inside. I had to wait about 30 minutes for one to free up, but once it did, I hopped inside and sat there for about two hours.
This place definitely had the quirkiness you would find at any tiki bar with fun drinks, decor, and views of the water. Plus it’s hidden down a side street, so way more low-key than Paceville ( St Julians Party street).
Gin Room | Address: 139 Triq Spinola, San Ġiljan, Malta
This bar specializes in one thing, and I bet you can guess what it is. I am not a huge gin person, unless the taste of gin is heavily masked with lots of sugar. That being said, I have had luck finding gin drinks I like at other gin bars, so I was excited to try The Gin Room. Their menu of signature drinks looked so interesting!
If you are after a classic G&T the friendly bartenders can help you choose a gin you would like, but if you want something a bit more creative I suggest ordering one of their unique cocktails. Honestly, I went here a while ago, so can’t remember the specific cocktail I had, but it had strawberry in it and I remember it being delicious.
The Crafty Cat Pub | Address: Mall, George Borg Oliver, Tower Road, St Julian’s, Malta
Alice in Wonderland has to be one of the greatest children’s stories every created, so I was very excited when I discovered Malta had not 1, but 4 Alice in Wonderland themed bars. As much as I would have loved to visit all of them, I only had time for one, so The Crafty Cat Pub it was!
This bar was so much fun! The decor was very on theme, with a mural of the Cheshire cat and the ceiling had playing card painted all over. I didn’t try the food, but the beer and cocktails were great! They had a decent selection of local and international beer and signature cocktails, all on theme with the book.
Juuls | Address: St Joseph Street 8 STJ08, San Ġiljan, Malta
This reggae bar is a calm escape from the chaoticness of Paceville. They have a unique selection of signature drinks, including a mojito with fresh strawberry purée poured on top. I could have easily enjoyed ten of them! Juuls is also one of the most affordable cocktail bars in St Julian, with prices ranging from 7 to 8 euros per drink.
I arrived just as they opened, so it was pretty quiet. I ended up spending a few hours sitting outside with my book and a couple drinks.
If you’re into reggae music or feel like dancing, they organize a wide range of events, from DJ sets and local musicians to boat parties.
Pleasure Wine & Cocktail Bar | Address: Schreiber & Triq Il- Knisja St. Julian’s, STJ 3081, Malta
I absolutely loved this small bar and their delicious yet super affordable cocktails! I ordered a few of their signature cocktails, including the monkey jam, which was my favorite one, and they had a yummy selection of small bites if you are feeling a bit hungry. I recommend the sausages!
Best Pubs in St Julian’s
Cork’s | Address: 58, Triq San Gorg, St Julian’s.
Cork’s is a happening spot in the center of St Julian. They host a variety of events including karaoke night every Thursday, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday; live music, and if you have a specific sporting event you want to watch, chances are, they are going to show it.
I’ve only been in Corks for a beer, but my friends went to karaoke a few times and said it was a great time!
The Dubliner | Address: George Borg Olivier St, St Julian’s, Malta
This bar is perfectly located right between Sliema and St Julian’s, making it the perfect spot to stop while exploring either area. They are also one of the few bars in St Julian’s open in the morning, so you don’t have to wait until the evening for that beer!
If you are hungry, they have very affordable pub food, including a full English breakfast for 6 euros!
City of London Bar | Address: WF8V+877, George Borg Olivier St, St Julian’s, Malta
The City of London Bar is a historic & iconic place that has been in the same family for over 100 years. It was founded in 1914 during The Great War and became a important refuge for British soldiers stationed on the island. It’s currently recognized as the oldest bar in Malta!
Today, the bar is still thriving and continues to be a place locals and tourists flock to for a cold beer and respite from the heat. The inside of the bar has an array of photos on the wall showing the bar’s transformation over the years.
There is a lovely outdoor terrace with a view of the water, and they regularly host a variety of events, including music nights, quiz nights, and football screenings.
When I went to City of London, it was unfortunately late, so I didn’t get any good photos. Enjoy this old photo of the bar on a beautiful day.
The Long Hall Irish Pub | Address: WFFQ+FRM, St George’s Road, St Julian’s, Malta
This pub is what I think of when I think of the perfect pub. A cozy, inviting atmosphere with soft lighting, wooden furniture and a pub tender ready to pour the perfect pint of Guinness or any beer your heart desires.
This pub is situated in Paceville, which also means it can get busy! Luckily, it is very spacious with lots of seating. Their Facebook page is where they post all the events they are hosting, including sports screenings and live music.
The Draytons Pub Saloon | Address: Triq Elija Zammit, San Ġiljan, Malta
Drayton’s Pub is a rock ‘n’ roll lover’s paradise. With rock ‘n’ roll hits playing non-stop, pool tables, foosball, and a large selection of cheap drinks, it’s hard not to have a great time here.
Whether you’re planning to have a few drinks with friends, pre-game before a wild night out, or dance the night away to classic rock tunes, Drayton’s Pub offers the perfect setting for a fun-filled evening.
Best Clubs in St Julian’s
Havana Club Malta | Address: St George’s Road, St Julian’s, Malta
When you’re ready to dance the night away after a few too many drinks, Havana Club is the perfect spot to unleash your dance moves. The club is easy to find, thanks to its massive neon sign on the building.
Inside, you’ve got two floors: the top floor has plenty of seats for when you need a break from all that dancing, plus a balcony that has a view of the street below and where you can practice your dramatic lean-over-the-railing poses for Instagram.
The main dance floor is downstairs. Be sure to check out their website for a schedule of different events happening throughout the week.
Footloose | Address: WFFQ+HM2, St George’s Road, St Julian’s, Malta
Out of all the clubs in St. Julian’s, Footloose had the best music in my opinion because I actually knew the words and could sing along to most of the songs.
The only downside is that it’s not very big, so it can get pretty crowded late at night. But honestly, when everyone is drunk and having a blast, a little crowding just adds to the fun.
Clique | Address: WFFQ+MH2, Paceville Main Staircase, St Julian’s, Malta
If you’re in St. Julian’s and looking for a place to lose yourself in some serious techno beats, this underground club is where you need to be. It’s located right next to Havana Club, so pretty easy to find. They host a variety of events which bring in local and international DJs, which they post on their Instagram page.
Best Bars in St Julian’s
Bellini Bar | Address: 29 Paceville Avenue, St Julian’s, Malta
This tiny bar is the ultimate spot for cheap shots, perfect for those looking to pre-game before a big night out. If you’re with a large group, you can snag 72 shots for just 24 euros! They are mixer shots, but if you have enough of them, they’ll definitely do the trick.
Although the place is small, there was a lot of standing room outside where everyone was sipping their drinks and chatting. But if you decide to order 72 shots, you may want to get yourself a table inside.
Beggars Inn Pub | Address: WFFR+5HC, Schreiber, San Ġiljan, Malta
Saddles St Julians | Address: Spinola bay, Main Street, San Ġiljan, Malta
I’m adding Saddles to this list because of their awesome outdoor seating area. You can enjoy a cold brewskie while overlooking St. Julian’s Bay. It’s a fantastic spot for some people-watching and a great place to take a break from sightseeing.
Me Lounge | Address: 101 Triq Spinola, San Ġiljan, Malta
I absolutely loved Me Lounge. Although it was pretty crowded inside, there was a massive outdoor deck with a stunning view of the bay.
They open at 6 pm, so perfect time to catch the sunset if you’re there during summer.
The Sun In Splendour Beer Garden | Address: 1969 Triq Ross, San Ġiljan, Malta
Now, this isn’t your typical beer garden with big wooden tables or 1-liter steins of beer. Instead, what you’ll find is a pub with a hidden gem—a lovely garden in the back that most people wouldn’t even know is there.
If you check their Facebook page, you’ll find a variety of events they host in the garden, such as open mic nights, sports game viewings, comedy nights, and occasionally even local DJ’s and musicians.
Nightlife in St Julian’s: FAQ
Is Nightlife in St Julian’s Safe?
St Julian’s is incredibly safe! I had no issues, even when I was walking home alone at 2 am. Obviously, like anywhere, keep your things close to you and don’t accept drinks from strangers without seeing the bartender make it themselves.
Is Nightlife in St Julian’s Expensive?
All the clubs are free to enter, but you will be paying fore drinks inside and I mean probably like 15 euros for a rum and coke. I don’t know if this is specific to females, but there are people outside most of the clubs handing out drink vouchers for one free drink. The first couple hours I was club hopping just on these vouchers, so this is a great way to make your nightlife experience in St Julian’s a bit cheaper.
There are bars you can go to before the club that specialize in pregaming with really cheap drinks that I mention above.
How to Get Home After a Night Out in St Julian’s?
The best place to stay if you are planing on going out in St Julian’s in Sliema or of course St Julian’s. Both places are incredibly walkable. I was staying in Sliema and my place was about a 20-minute walk from all the clubs and bars.
